Auchentoshan Three Wood Single Malt Scotch
Auchentoshan is one of the few Lowland distilleries, in the southern part of Scotland just over the border with England. The style produced here is a lighter distillate than most single malts, with a triple distillation instead of the usual two. This is the norm in Ireland, but rarely seen in Scotland (Springbank’s unpeated Hazelburn malt being another rare example). The Three-Wood moniker refers to the casks used in maturation: Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry and Pedro Ximenez Sherry. The result is sweet dried-fruit flavors that fade into a lingering, luscious caramel finish.
